INK WASH PAINTING WORKSHOP
About The Event
Ink Wash Painting methods originated from China and then were gradually adopted and modified by Japan. Paintings in black ink are called Sumie in Japan. It utilizes gradation by variations of ink and water proportions. Florals, landscape, and abstract patterns are usually what is painted on cartridge sheets with the technique of shading and pressure within a single brushstroke.
Sumie is that space which is as important or perhaps more important than the objects. It is
“the beauty of blank space”. In Sumie, the white space or “emptiness” completes the painting. It is an art deeply rooted in Zen, embodying many of its tenets.
Participate in the Ink Wash Painting workshop and let your philosophical side relate to Zen all while you have fun experiencing this age-old art form. Art materials like black Indian ink and cartridge sheets required for the workshop will be provided to you.
